A recent study stated that the highly advertised "Thread Lift" produces only short-lived improvement in appearance, and should no longer be used given its risks, poor results and discomfort for patients, conclude the authors of a long-term study of patients who underwent the procedure

I never adopted the thread lift in my practice after becoming aware of it when it first came out years ago. After seeing the procedure presented by Steven Dayan, MD at a Newport Beach conference, I waited a year and then asked the very honest and forthright Dr. Dayan about his experience with the procedure. He shared that he no longer performed the thread lift because of the same reasons cited in the current study. Sorry if you have had the thread lift, but good news for those contemplating the procedure, save your time and money. Be well. Dr. P
The FDA has approved Ellman International's Pelleve radiofrequency technology for skin tightening.

I saw the technology demonstrated one year ago at Facial Cosmetic Surgery 2008 in Las Vegas. As with all new technologies, it is prudent to give them some time before "jumping on the bandwagon" as many times within a year they are found to be ineffective.
I will be attending Facial Cosmetic Surgery 2009 next week, and will be taking a very close look at Ellman's promising facial tightening product. To read more about Pelleve go to

Adam Lambert of American Idol has incredible talent and we will be seeing him very much for years to come.

Patients have commented to me about the texture of Adam's skin. It appears that Adam has the residual of acne scarring.

His acne scarring would respond well to a series of Fraxel repair treatments. His only problem would be finding the 10 to 14 days to recover with his busy schedule (but not being adverse to wearing make up, he would only need about 7 days to get back to work).

Congratulations to Adam on his American Idol season and his very promising future career.

Good Day LA Appearance Fraxel re:pair

Thursday, May 14. 2009 posted in Media Appearances

Here is the Good Day LA segment that aired 5/11 and 5/12 on FOX with the most lovely Jillian Barbarie

http://www.myfoxla.com/dpp/good_day_la/style_file/Style_File_Fraxel_Repair_20090511

The before and after photos are patients who have had a "full" Fraxel repair treatment. The patient treated on the video is having a Fraxel re:pair "Lite" treatment. The price quoted was for a "Lite" treatment. The before and after pictures are of "single" full re:pair treatments and are more costly.
Here we go again. Breaking news coverage of the Santa Barbara Fire diaster pre-empted the first scheduled apearance last Friday. Barring another major news story, Dr. Persky will be interviewed by the lovely and talented Jillian Barbarie on her Style File segment of Good Day LA on Monday morning and Tuesday morning. They will be discussing the "Next Big Thing" in facial rejuvenation, re:pair fractionated carbon dioxide laser skin rejuvenation. Want to look years younger, tune in Monday 5/11 at 8:15 am, and Tuesday 5/12 at 9:15 am FOX LA Channel 11. We will put the segment up on our web site media page as soon as it is available. Be well, hope that Mother's Day went well for all of you (not only for you deserving moms, but also for all the dads who tried to get it right, only to fall short of expectations once again).
Dr. Persky and the talented and most beautiful Ms. Jillian Barbarie discuss how to look years younger with a fast, relatively easy treatment. On Fox 11's morning show, "Good Day LA" at 8:15 am and 9:15 am Dr. Persky appears on Jillian's Style File segment. Dr. Persky's use of Fraxel re:pair laser skin rejuvenation, called the "Next Big Thing" in the April Vogue magazine by prominent NYC dermatologists will be featured, including an actual patient treatment as well as before and after photographs of his patients.
A study by Bahman Guyuron of the Cleveland Clinic published in the April 2009 issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery examined various factors that cause women to look aged. A thin face is the lead culprit because being slender causes a loss of volume in the face, While the research does note that thinness makes the face appear older, this holds true only for women over 40. For women under 40, gaining weight obscures the facial definition that is inherent in a younger woman. This loss of volume creates jowls and makes wrinkles develop, the older we get, the more the face gets depleted. When you lose weight, this look is enhanced and aging is accelerated. In older women, having a little weight on board makes the face look a little younger. In the late 20s and early 30s, a woman's facial shape is a heart or inverted triangle but with age, it becomes a square or an upright rectangle. To keep that younger looking shape, many women opt for a procedure to fill out the face with injections of Restylane, Juvederm, or a similar product. Being thin isn't the only factor in whether your face looks aged or not, according to the study, which looked at nearly 200 pairs of identical twins over the course of two years. Since the twins' genetic makeup was the same, researchers were able to attribute the differences in how old they looked not to their gene pool, but to external factors. And the researchers found that, in addition to thinness, smoking, heavy drinking, sun exposure, being divorced and being on antidepressants also are to blame. So, to look your best, quit smoking/drinking heavily, get a job working indoors, see the marriage counselor, don't worry/be happy, and best of all have a hot chocolate soufflé every now and then, especially on those birthdays after #39. Don't you love medical research? Be well.
There is a new wrinkle fighter in town. The FDA has approved Medicis' botulium toxin drug, Dysport. They plan to release the drug for public use within the next two months. This marks the first time that Botox giant Allergan will have competition in the wrinkle, anti-aging market in the U.S. More news to follow.
It is time to set your TiVo's and DVR's to Fox Channel 11 "Good Day LA" as Dr. Persky will appear on the lovely Jillian Barbari's "Style File" segment during May "sweeps". Dr. Persky discusses the Next Big Thing in Facial Cosmetics...fractionated carbon dioxide skin rejuvenation (Fraxel re:pair) with Jillian. An actual patient treatment was filmed at the office. As they say on TV, stay tuned for more info when the exact air date is known. Be well.
