Fraxel re:pair is the treatment of choice for patient's suffering from acne scarring. Although Fraxel re:store is also effective in a series of treatments, Fraxel re:pair results are far more dramatic. We are seeing marked improvement after a single treatment, although all patients are advised that it may take 2 to 3 treatments for best results. An initial deep re:pair treatment may be followed with another deep treatment 3 to 6 months after the first, or even a Fraxel re:pair Lite treatment. Though not a guarantee of future results, thus far all of our acne scar patients have been very happy and satisfied with their results.
Fraxel re:pair is a fractionated carbon dioxide (CO2) laser that rejuvenates the skin. It can be used at very low settings (Fraxel re:pair Lite) to invigorate the skin, diminish light discolorations, and improve the tone and texture of the skin. It is performed in the office using only numbing cream without any other oral medications or injections. The treatment with this revolutionary laser takes only 15 minutes. After 4 to 5 days of mild redness, patients are able to return to work refreshed. It has been ideal for actresses, actors, television personalities, and politicians who don't have time for the recovery of more aggressive treatments. Having a treatment two weeks before an engagement, speech, or awards show results in a fresh and healthy look whether on high definition camera, film, or in person. It is a fraction of the cost of a full Fraxel re:pair treatment. See you on the red carpet!

The talented and lovely Ms. Marta Waller had Fraxel re:pair this past summer, and was kind enough to have her experience video documented. You can find the entire 12 episodes of the video documentary on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fraxel+repair&search_type=&aq=f). Dr. Persky's appearances on PBS' "American Health Journal", BBC's "Super Botox Me", and KDOC's "OC DayBreak" can also be found on the same You Tube site. Dr. Persky will appear on NBC's EXTRA this Friday, November 7, 2008 at 7 pm. Thanks to Ms. Waller for sharing her Fraxel re:pair adventure with all of us.
Dr. Persky will appear on NBC television's EXTRA scheduled for Friday November 7, 2008 at 7:00 pm. He will be discussing Fraxel re:pair laser rejuvenation treatment. The appearance will be as an "EXTRA Life Changer", where the public asks questions and Dr. Persky gives answers from the web cam in his office. Please give us and NBC EXTRA your feedback on the segment. Thanks.
In a national NBC syndicated television story that originated on WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, the Fraxel laser is described as a “Fall Face Fix” that can reverse the harmful effects of the summer’s sun. Fraxel treatment will do a lot to improve sun damage, acne scars and the overall appearance of skin. The segment makes reference to the Today Show segment featuring Kathie Lee Gifford and notes that the Fraxel re:store laser is FDA cleared for discoloration, roughness, sun damage, acne scars and wrinkles. Dr. Persky appeared on the front page of today's Los Angeles Daily News in an article entitled "Cosmetic Surgery Gets a Lift" written by Barbara Correa. Here are links to the articles, which ran today in the LA Daily News:

The article addresses financing of elective cosmetic procedures. We now offer Care Credit financing in our office. Be well.
Dr. Persky will be featured on the local PBS television station KOCE in Los Angeles, and Orange County discussing Fraxel re:pair laser skin rejuvenation. The show will air Wednesday October 1, 2008 at 7:30 p.m., and then again on Friday October 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. The viewing party and wrap party will be held at Les Deux in Hollywood with the stars from the Hills....just kidding about this part. Be well.
Innovative British journalist Ms. Kate Spicer traveled to the U.S. this summer to investigate the latest facial cosmetic non-invasive treatments. She began in New York City, where she received Botox and Sculptra injections by doctors including Madonna's cosmetic injection physician Fredric Brandt, MD. She then traveled to Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Encino. Having consulted with multiple physicians, she decided to have her periorbital area (upper and lower eyelids) treated with Fraxel re:pair in my office. The one hour documentary entitled, "Super Botox Me" was aired across Europe in August by the BBC's channel 4. An edited version can be seen on You Tube by searching under "Persky Fraxel". In the documentary, Ms. Spicer had actually initially decided to have another Los Angeles cosmetic surgeon perform fat transfer and blepharoplasty. When I heard, plus the fact that she had recent Sculptra injections (which take about three weeks to show their full effects), I called Kate's producer to let them know that I would be remiss as a physician if I didn't let them know that putting fat graft transfers on top of newly placed Sculptra could result in permanent problems. After speaking with the other physician (who consulted with colleagues of his), Ms. Spicer decided to be treated with the non-invasive, safe and effective Fraxel re:pair eyelid treatment. Due to her time constraints of getting the documentary done, her post treatment pictures are very early after the treatment; she had not yet completely healed. Please take a look at an edited version of my participation in the documentary at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5_x3jjRZI0. If you are in Europe, the entire documentary, “Super Botox Me” can be seen by going to: www.channel4.com/video/super-botox-me/catchup.html.
You will soon be hearing of the results of Fraxel re:pair laser from patients who have had the treatment, as well as from the media. I have now treated about 40 patients, 39 have had phenomenal results. One patient did not get the tightening of skin that we had hoped for, nor the overall improvement desired. People are different and we all have slightly different skin health, and we all recover and heal uniquely.
My patients and I have found that there is an overall younger appearance of 5 to 10 years. Patients say that they are hearing, "You look rested and healthy". We are seeing tightening of the forehead with a slight elevation of the eyebrows. The affect on the upper and lower eyelids is remarkable making the eyes look younger, in the majority of cases the results are nearly as good as or better than actual eyelid surgery.
The most consistent finding is increased fullness and lifting of the cheeks and midface area. This reverses the process of volume loss and sagging that we unfortunately see as the aging process travels through our late 30's, 40's and in those lucky individuals, 50's.
The treatment does not get rid of "jowls", but helps a bit. In patients with lax neck skin there is marked improvement. The treatment is not a face or neck lift, and does not replace those surgeries.
Overall tone, texture, and color of the skin are very nicely improved. Pore size is improved as well. The results on brown pigmentation have been spectacular, as have the results on acne scarring (both color and evenness of the skin surface). I look forward to continued improvement in patients treated with fraxel repair for up to 6 months after their treatment as there is continued new production of collagen.
My only caveat that Fraxel re:pair laser is an extremely powerful laser technology so please choose your physician most carefully. Be well.
The current edition of C Magazine, with the beautiful and talented Ms. Meg Ryan on its cover has an article about Fraxel re:pair laser treatment written by Shana Dishell. The photo in the article is the best published photograph of my right hand since The Los Angeles Times photo of the same right hand holding a baseball during the perfect game I pitched for Hamilton High School 3/21/71 against University High School. This is not to imply that I either pitched against or ever treated Ms. Ryan, only that her beautiful face on the cover and my right hand on page 88 just happen to appear in this month's C Magazine. Be well.
Fraxel re:pair laser treatment has gone global. Though the Fraxel repair laser treatment is still only available in the United States in a limited number of practices, I have been fortunate to have the privilege to treat patients from all over the world. Patients from out of town are seen the day after the procedure, 3 days after the procedure, and one week after (some patients need only stay for 3 days after the treatment). With a short 8 to 10 day visit to Los Angeles (Encino), they are able to return home looking years younger and more beautiful. Should you wish to consider a "facial rejuvenation" vacation, our office staff will be happy to make arrangements for you and recommend local hotels to meet your needs.
In an entry on 6/28/08 I wrote, "Health and Beauty correspondent Marta Waller of KTLA, Channel 5 in Los Angeles has documented her Fraxel re:pair experience in a daily video blog available at KTLA.com and at The Chicago Tribune.com.......You can see the first installment at http://ktla.trb.com/news/health/ktla-video-dairy-marta1,0,3083829.htmlstory. Ms. Waller will also be featuring the story on the KTLA evening news, followed by the Morning News. Look for her segment on Channel 5 this week." Well apparently there has been a "managerial change" over at KTLA, so the segment has been postponed. You can still tune in to KTLA, Channel 5 in Los Angeles, evenings at 10-11pm to see the beautiful Ms. Waller covering health and beauty topics. As Jackie Gleason used to say, "Ralph, one of these days" you will be seeing her segment on her experience with Fraxel repair by Reliant (Reliant was bought by Thermage this week in a deal to be finalized later this year. but that's another blog topic). Be well.
Dr. Persky is the only facial plastic surgeon in Southern California to offer all three of the currently available Fraxel laser treatments. Fraxel refine provides safe, gentle resurfacing for patients in their 20's and 30's. You can prevent or address the first signs of aging, such as fine lines and mild pigment problems without downtime. Fraxel restore treatment offers patients in their 30’s, 40's and 50's a noninvasive solution to wrinkles around the eyes, acne scars and brown spots, helping your skin to regain its youthful glow. Fraxel repair treatment is designed for patients in their late 30's to 70's looking for a preemptive strike to treat deeper wrinkles and skin laxity without a surgical facelift. If you'd like to find out which treatment best suits your condition, you can e-mail your photo to drpersky@aol.com, or better yet, come to our office for a personal consultation. Be well.
Fraxel Re:pair by Reliant has hit the internet in a most unique manner! Health and Beauty correspondent Marta Waller of KTLA, Channel 5 in Los Angeles has documented her Fraxel re:pair experience in a daily video blog available at KTLA.com and at The Chicago Tribune.com. Ms. Waller truly "stuck her neck out" for this investigative report.
She recently underwent Fraxel repair treatment of her face, eyes, nec, and décolletage at my office. You can see the first installment at http://ktla.trb.com/news/health/ktla-video-dairy-marta1,0,3083829.htmlstory. Ms. Waller will also be featuring the story on the KTLA evening news, followed by the Morning News. Look for her segment on Channel 5 this week.
I believe that Ms. Waller's story with video documentation will be of value to men and women who desire a more beautiful and younger appearance with a single non-invasive office based treatment. The story will answer many of the questions, and clear up some of the confusion regarding this incredible cutting edge treatment.
Fraxel re:pair by Reliant fractionated CO2 laser technology is truly where facial plastic of the next 10 years is headed.
The results thus far with Fraxel repair treatments have been excellent. Patient satisfaction has been extremely high in 100% of my patients. The tightening in the eyelid area, jaw line, and jowl/neck areas has been impressive. This is an incredible technology that can be adjusted and customized to individual patient needs. It is truly a "Wow" experience for patients, their friends, and families.
It is a very powerful laser. I am fortunate to have had extensive experience with the previous traditional CO2 lasers over the past 20 years. I believe that my “surgeon” background is also very helpful in the meticulous treatment around the eyelids and face, as well as with post-treatment wound care. We are now including pre-treatment Botox of the glabella and crow' feet area, post-treatment hyperbaric oxygen therapy, as well as specific skin care products with the treatment.
