Liposuction Of The Neck

Many patients present to my office complaining of fullness under their chin, and excessive laxity of the skin of their neck. These patients are excellent candidates for neck liposuction. The procedure is performed in the operating room usually with the patient under sedation anesthesia, although it can be performed under local anesthesia.

The procedure effectively tightens the neck and jaw line by removing excess fatty tissue, but also by lifting the skin and subcutaneous tissues off of the underlying muscle layer. When the skin to bandaged in place after the treatment, it heals tightly to the underlying muscular tissue, creating a more angled neck and jaw line. Studies and patient experience have shown that the neck angle improves even more beautifully when a pre-jowl implant (or when indicated a chin-pre jowl implant) is added to the liposuction. In patients with the two midline neck bands (caused by the platysma muscle), the bands are corrected by suturing them together through the same under-the-chin two inch incision. In many male patients with “turkey gobbler” midline necks, the excess skin can be directly removed at the same time, restoring a non-avian neck. The incision of neck liposuction is hidden in the crease under the chin. Patients are back to normal activities 7 to 10 days following the procedure.

With this relatively non-invasive procedure, patients can improve their neck and jaw line to give a more healthy and youthful appearance.
