In the rapidly evolving field of plastic aesthetic surgery, it is most difficult to keep up with new technologies, surgical techniques, patient management, and treatments.  I spend time away from my family and practice to attend at least 3 to 4 carefully selected quality national and international facial plastic surgical conferences per year.  It is important to share information with colleagues, as well as keep a pulse on what is new, what is real, and what is hype.

I not only depend on valued colleagues sharing their experience at these meetings, but also have found a handful of non-physician women who attend and lecture at many of these meetings to be invaluable.  Thanks to their individual talents, devotion and passion for aesthetic medicine, they often have insights into our practices that we as practicing physicians don’t have the time or energy to gain.   They generously share their unique knowledge about the aesthetic patient helping physicians to improve their practices.

Catherine Maley, Sausalito, CA, President of Cosmetic Image Marketing, and author of “Your Aesthetic Practice…What Your Patients are Saying” has interviewed hundreds of patients and knows what men and women want and expect from their cosmetic physicians.

Tracy Drumm, Chicago, Ill,  manages the day-to-day operations of IF MARKETING, a prestigious marketing firm in downtown Chicago specializing in aesthetic medicine.

Wendy Lewis, NYC, NY, is a plastic surgical consultant, and author of the recent book, “Plastic Makes Perfect”.

Terri Ross, Manhattan Beach, CA,  is a plastic surgical practice consultant as well.  She recently helped CoolSculpting by Zeltiq with a most successful international launch.

Thanks to all of these women for the passionate and excellent work that they do to assist aesthetic patients worldwide by educating patients as well as their physicians and surgeons.  Lastly, let’s not forget the reigning queen and spokeswoman for plastic surgery, fresh off her Go Daddy Super Bowl commercial, Joan Rivers, author of “Men Are Stupid…and They Like Big Boobs”, a guide to plastic surgery.

As for me, I am going to get back to reading my medical journals.  Be well.
