When patients have a fraxel repair treatment which is a fractionated carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing, there needs to be a commitment to taking care of the skin for a prolonged period of time after the treatment. During the first couple of days, anywhere from 3-5 days, patients are instructed on using mild vinegar soaks with 4×4 gauge sponges approximately every 3-4 hours, after which they apply a foamy oxygen-containing dressing that is less prone to irritate the skin. They do that again every 3-4 hours for the first 3-5 days, after which the skin care is using just mild moisturizers and avoiding the sun, and using the sunblock when they are outside. After about a week or two, it is important for the patients to use very good skin products which we have here in the office to ensure that their results are optimal.
