sculptra-vectra.jpg templesThe other morning at the gym I was stopped by a woman who asked if I could help her with her descending eyebrows. A surgical eyebrow lift would help, but she did not want any surgical procedures. The reason why the lateral eyebrows descend, creating an aged appearance, is the loss of volume in the temporal area. Unfortunately, unlike other areas of the body where we would be more than happy to lose fat as we age, the fat pads of the face shrink as we get older. In the temple area, this results in a sunken appearance (sadly in patients with serious disease processes such as cancer, “temporal wasting” is a sign of the disease). Loss of temporal support causes the lateral eyebrow to desend which from the front gives the eyebrow a shortened appearance and lateral “hooding” of excess skin increases. Youthful eyebrows are well shaped and extend laterally. By adding volume to the temple, the eyebrow is lifted, and the face is brought back into a more youthful shape.

When going through each of the progressions, note how the temple fills and simultaneously the eyebrows lift, extend laterally, and the eyes seem to open.

The injection of Sculptra in the temple area is quick and easy with no downtime, and very little risk. The amount of volume that is obtained is directly related to the number of injection sessions that are performed over time.
