John Lennon sang “Love is the Answer”, me thinks that the appeal of ABC’s reality show “The Bachlorette” is just that.  The masses are hoping that Emily Maynard, 26, finds elusive love…in the most unnatural of circumstances.  Today word that Ms. Maynard wishes to have the reality cameras follow her through her engagement, and pray tell no, marriage.

Emily is a beautiful woman on the outside, this physician is not quite sure of what is going on with her inside based on her Bachelor/Bachelorette career choices.  Her facial beauty is undeniable.   Emily’s face is a good example of  classic –Da Vinci proportions, his “Divine ratio“, and “The Phi Ratio” are all over her face.  Leonardo’s Divine Ratio is 1:1.68 or 0.68, as in the ratio of Emily’s upper lip to lower lip , her upper lip 70% the size of her lower lip.  Da Vinci’s principles of facial proportion divides the beautiful face into near equal horizontal thirds (each the width of the distance between the tip of the nose to the eyebrows)  and vertical fifths (each fifth the width of the eye from corner to corner of the eyelid.)  Da Vinci’s 15’th century proportions of beauty are seen on Emily’s face, and other beauty icons including Elizabeth Taylor, J Lo, Angelina Jolie, and Beyonce.

So, in answer to the question I am asked daily, “Doc, what do you think Emily has had done plastic surgery wise?“, at age 26, probably not that much.  She has a very smooth forehead that may have fell victim to neuromodulators Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin.  Her lips have a very nice proportion and fullness, perhaps a touch of injectable fillers Juvederm or Restylane.  Her facial volume is excellent, perhaps a vial of Sculptra divided between each side of her face in strategic areas to avoid the earliest signs of aging, a mid-cheek trough, or to add volume to give  Emily that rested, refreshed, and youthful look.  Not that a few weeks in the Caribbean won’t add to that look (wear your sunblock)!  Lastly, as we tell our patients at Persky Sunder Plastic Surgery, “PS:It’s your skin”.  I suspect that Ms. Maynard has been using excellent skin care products such as Skin Medica’s TNS Essential Serum, Hydrating Gel, and Intra-Ceuticals Moisture Binding Cream.  Let’s not forget that O2 Infusion Facial for the glowing, hydrated skin.

I’ve tried my “breast” to give my opinion of Emily’s possible plastic surgery, but since I limit my practice the face and non-invasive below the clavicle procedures such as Cellulaze and CoolSculpting, I will not venture as to whether her body is all natural.  Somethings need to be left to the imagination, but she has had a child.

Getting back to music and song, I believe that these horrendous reality shows should be renamed “Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places“!  Thankfully we are down to the final 3 hour final selection of her fiancee episode.  Though exposing her happiness and fun times had with her final three guys, Emily was upset having to say goodbye to the to third place contestant, Sean.  She will again be crushed when is is forced to eliminate either Jef or Arie.  Which contestant would you feel more sorry for, the winner or loser?  My empathy goes to the winner, but as they say, “Sometimes you get what you deserve”!  Though she states that she is so happy with all of the last three men, unfortunately I belive that Emily is about to learn that “The Perfect Man” is extremely rare, and certainly a reality show is not the best of places to find him.  As happy as she has been with all three, it will be impossible for one mortal man to meet that criteria.  Ahh, but as Nora Ephron and Woody Allen observe in their most recent works, it is unfortunate that reality show contestants have become today’s celebrities to the American masses.

Prayers to those with “real” problems in life,  not “reality TV show” problems.  As to that eternal quest for love, be good to others and try your best, love will follow.  Be well!
