We just returned from South Beach where The Global Aesthetic Conference 2019 (GAC) took place. GAC is an annual gathering of top aesthetic physician and surgeon experts. I wanted to share a conversation that I had with one of my favorite people in the aesthetics world. We originally met when she was a drug company representative. She has since been promoted to a much higher corporate level at another company. We saw each other the first day of the conference outside of the exhibit hall. She asked if I was lecturing and I told her that I was giving two lectures, the first was “What is Beauty?” and the second “The Use of High Frequency Intense Electro-Magnetic Energy to Build Muscle in the Buttocks, Abdomen, Arms, and Legs” That’s a long title for Emsculpt (we are not allowed to use proprietary company names during our medical/surgical presentations). She then shared with me her experience with another non-invasive electromagnetic energy device that the same company, BTL devised to originally treat weakness of the pelvic floor and stress urinary incontinence, Emsella. Emsella has been shown to safely and effectively treat stress urinary incontinence (leakage) in women and men. My friend told me that she had a total of 6 Emsella sessions consisting of 28 minute treatments sitting on the chair while fully clothed, twice a week over 3 weeks. It not only took care of her urinary incontinence, but she raved, “As much as I love how Emsella has changed my life, my husband is just as happy, I’m back to my old self, it has restored our sex life, and my orgasms are better than ever!” She said, “Dr. Persky you should definitely offer Emsella to your patients. You are great at making faces look naturally beautiful, making women look great up here (pointing to her face) but if a woman is not happy down there, then no matter what you do on their face, they are still not happy.” Emsella uses electromagnetic waves to non-invasively build pelvic floor muscles, strengthening the muscles with the equivalent of 12,000 Kegel exercises per 28 minute sessions, while our patients sit fully clothed on the Emsella chair. The treatment is totally painless, most patients, including myself, find that the treatment feels good. In men it helps with urinary frequency at night, cutting down on the number of times older men need to get up and urinate. Studies are currently underway on how Emsella improves the sex life of both women and men. Emsella is great for both urinary incontinence as well as intimacy.
