Before and AfterUltherapy by Ulthera is the “next big thing” in non-invasive facial plastic surgery, and likely in plastic surgery with current research on uses of the one of a kind technology on off-of-the-face body sites.  Ulthera is a great therapy, but now it is even better!

Thanks to innovative research and development along with the work of intelligent forward thinking clinical physicians, Ulthera is an even better treatment now with the introduction of a new, small ultrasound transducer, safe new more aggressive treatment guidelines, and local anesthesia techniques that make Ultherapy quite tolerable.

One of the first internet posts that I ever read about Ulthera stated, “Ulthera, Yes it Works, Yes it Hurts!”  The article described the effectiveness of Ulthera but warned readers of the pain involved with the treatment.  My feeling is that there should be a way to keep patients comfortable during the treatment (after all, the treatment should be a practice builder, not torture).  I offer my patients a variety of methods to make the treatment most comfortable for them.  Recently, the use of targeted local anesthesia nerve blocks has dramatically reduced patient discomfort during the 60 to 90 minute procedure.

As noted Ulthera’s web site, “The Ulthera® System, with its patented DeepSEEtechnology, combines ultrasound imaging with ultrasound therapy in a single “see and treat” device. This ingenious combination of ultrasound capabilities allows the user to achieve a noninvasive, thermal coagulative effect in soft tissue with precision and consistency at an unprecedented depth – all with extraordinary safety.”

As further promised by the company, “The Ulthera® System is a platform that will accommodate upgrades and future applications. It is configured with three primary components: the control unit, the handpiece, and the DeepSEE transducers.”   The company has delivered on their claims by introducing the latest upgrade, the small transducer.  Ulthera has added a new smaller transducer capable of treating smaller areas more accurately.  This will allow creative practitioners the means to treat bothersome vertical lip lines as well as skin wrinkles around the eyes.

Lastly, thanks to the excellent and dedicated work of Gordon Sasaki, MD, Matt White, MD, Andrew Campbell MD, and others, more aggressive yet safe treatment guidelines have been announced that recommend 40% more energy deliverance to many areas.  Creative physicians can modify these guidelines with the unique needs of the individual patient in mind.  Ulthera is not a “commodity” but rather a brilliant non-surgical tool that can be used to creatively lift and tighten the deep muscles and skin of the face, neck, and brow.

With these three latest improvements in Ultherapy , Ulthera has not only just gotten better, but I expect that patients will benefit from improved and perhaps longer lasting results.
